Spring Cleaning 2020: Household Chores That You Only Need to Do Once a Year

There are household chores that you need to accomplish at least once a month to keep your home clean. However, there are tasks you do not have to do as frequently but are still quite important.

HVAC Maintenance

Your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is central to your home. You use it to keep your home warm when it is cold outside; you use it to keep you cool when it is warm outside. It provides the air you breathe inside your home day in and day out.

While it sounds like a hassle, you need to check on your HVAC. A professional can thoroughly inspect and clean your equipment. If anything needs repair, you can find services that provide HVAC repair in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Do not forget to check on the coils and condenser outside. Those need to be washed, too. If there are shrubs near the unit, check if it needs trimming. The filters, however, needs to be changed at least once a month.

Fireplace and Chimney Sweep

Now that winter is over, it is time to close the fireplace and chimney for the rest of the year. But, before you do that, give it a thorough cleaning.

You can use a shop vacuum to remove the ashes from your fireplace quickly and easily. The interior and the andiron need to be wiped with a mixture of white vinegar and water.

Your chimney should be checked by a professional. This is the perfect time to set an appointment with a professional to remove soot and other obstructions that may have settled in your chimney.

Empty Your Gutters

As preparation for spring, it is best to check on your gutters. Some homes may need to do this task more often if or install gutter guards in order to keep it free from fallen leaves, twigs, allergens, and other debris.

If you want to do it yourself, grab a sturdy ladder and slip a pair of gloves on your hands. You can scoop out trash from your gutters using your hands or a small shovel.

Remove the Dust from Your Mattress

Even if you regularly change your covers, your mattress might have accumulated dust and body soil throughout the past year. To clean your mattress, vacuum the top and the sides. If you see stains, scrub it with a solution made up of mild dish detergent and water. Also, you need to flip or rotate your mattress so that it wears out evenly.

Purge Unnecessary Documents

People tend to hoard documents, whether it is a receipt or a warranty for electronics, in case they need it in the future. As a result, they accumulate tons of paper, some of which are out of date and no longer necessary.

Make it a point to go through your paper files and toss out those that have become clutter. Take this opportunity to tidy your electronic correspondences. Delete spam and promotional e-mails. This way, you will be able to easily and quickly access those important documents that otherwise will be buried in trash.

Take a weekend off of your busy schedule so you do not forget to accomplish these tasks. Do not worry; although there is a lot to do, you only have to make an effort once a year.
